Just FYI. Current statistics show that positive birth outcomes in the US are substantially higher for home births vs. hospital deliveries. Chris R., my wife had a similar situation with the birth of our son. The midwives in attendance handled the situation professionally, and we had a great home birth experience.

Joe,

I think the point he was trying to make is that if you choose a so-called "natural" home birth, and there's a complication, the chances of mother/baby survival is probably about the same as some woman who died from giving birth in some some log cabin in the early 1800's. Not good. My wife had a rupture after the otherwise completely normal birth of my son and I watched her turn completely grey right in front of my eyes. The OB (also damn good surgeon) gave her a clotting agent, and was able to stop the bleeding and, in my opinion, "saved her life". If we were in that log cabin 150 years ago, she wouldn't be here. Likewise, if we had elected natural birth at home with a mid-wife (no offense to any midwives out there), I'm pretty certain my son would be motherless today. I'll take modern medicine anyday. But again, we live in a society that gives us choice. The choice is yours to either have a natural home-birth, or not listen to the podcasts! lol!

No... but he'd eat "better" meat.

Smoking is a vice. People know it's bad... yet still do it.

You also have to remember that we do these things "on the fly". They aren't really scripted other than the topic we want to discuss.

Just think of it as "2 dudes in a bar shooting the shit" :)

... so ALL of our examples might not be the best in the world... lol

The farmer example (eating all the stuff cuz he knows its okay) isn't really good reasoning tho IMHO, and doesn't always go.
Tobacco companies know smoking is bad (and probably knew long time before the rest of the world), but I'm sure a lot of the big bosses of the tobacco companies still smoke.
A lot of people willingly do things they know are bad for them. So even if this big farmer would know his cows get bad hormone or med injections, that doesn't mean he would stop eating meat, necessarily.
